Author Interviews

The Value of Critique Groups

18 March, 2016 by Debra

Author interviews have become one of my favorite posts. While there are similarities to the publication journey, there are always unique perspectives and experiences that come from each author.

The Value of Critique Groups author interviewI hope you glean information and strategies that will aid you in your journey.

Today’s interview is with Vickie Phelps. Her book, Postmark from the Past, released in Nov. 2015 by CrossRiver Media Group. Vickie writes fiction and nonfiction to encourage, inspire, and influence. She has published 200 articles in both regional and national magazines. Vickie is the author of five gift books with [Read more…] about The Value of Critique Groups

19 February, 2016 by Debra

In a day when publishing is at our fingertips, the question whether to publish independently or traditionally is one many writers consider. Both routes have their benefits and drawbacks.

Indie publishingMaybe you are struggling with this very question right now. I hope today’s interview with author Janice Dick gives you some insight into making your decision.

The Making of a Writers Conference

9 February, 2016 by Debra

With conference season upon us, I thought it would be interesting to learn what goes into creating those conferences, so you can better evaluate the conference(s) you choose to attend (and pray for their organizers).

Hiebert interview

I asked Julane Hiebert, chairwoman of the Called to Write Writers Conference held in Pittsburg, Kansas, to share her experience and advice.

I first met Julane at last year’s Called to Write conference and wish I had had more time to get acquainted with her. Conferences are wonderful places to make new friends who are walking the same journey and understand the joys—and frustrations—of writing!

When and how did the Called to Write conference get started? [Read more…] about The Making of a Writers Conference

Saying no to a contract Lisa LickelLisa Lickel is a Wisconsin writer who lives in a 160-year-old house built by a Great Lakes ship captain. What a great setting for book! I can imagine all sorts of interesting and mysterious aspects a ship captain might build as part of his house.

Charlee Harris on Publishing

Author Charlee Harris
Author Charlee Harris

Today I’m pleased to interview Charlene Harris, though she prefers to be called Charlee. She’s both an artist and writer, and previously wrote for a local newspaper, reading and critiquing books by established and new authors.

Many moons ago, Charlee was the first female basketball official for her section of the Eastern conference in Alabama. But her dream has always been to be an author.

Her favorite quote is by Cyril Connolly who said, “Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.”

Charlee, at what point in writing your book did you begin to look for publishers? [Read more…] about Charlee Harris on Publishing

An Interview with Multi-Published Elma Schemenauer

16 October, 2015 by Debra

If there is any one group of people who embrace “pay it forward,” it is the community of writers. I’ve learned a lot from the writing community over the years.

My Friday Feature Author Interview is one of the most enjoyable posts I share because it’s when other writers share their knowledge about writing and getting published.

Author Elma (Martens) SchemenauerToday’s interview is with Elma Schemenauer, author of [Read more…] about An Interview with Multi-Published Elma Schemenauer
